Corning introduces its hardest gorilla glass referred to as Glass Victus

Corning Inc., one of the leading glass manufacturers for cell phones, recently announced the breakthrough in glass technology that featured the toughest gorilla glass called victus.

Gorilla Glass Victus has more than a decade of experience delivering tough glass for smartphones, laptops, tablets, smartwatches and other wearables and offers consumers and OEMs significantly better drop and scratch performance than competitive aluminum silicate glasses from other manufacturers.

John Bayne, senior vice president and general manager of Mobile Consumer Electronics, said about Glass Victus: "Corning's extensive consumer research has shown that improved drop and scratch performance are key components in consumer buying decisions."

China, India and the United States are one of the largest smartphone markets in the world. In view of everyday use, a need for tough, dirt and scratch-resistant glass is a must for every smartphone. Durability is one of the most important factors to consider. When tested against features such as screen size, camera quality, and device thinness, durability was twice as important, and consumers were willing to pay a premium for improved durability.

Corning Inc. had analyzed and received feedback from over 90,000 consumers who were willing to pay more if the phone was scratch and drop resistant. This is now the main aspect to consider when buying a new phone.

John Bayne said: “Dropped phones can lead to broken phones. However, as we developed better glasses, phones survived more falls, but also showed more visible scratches that could affect device usability. ”Our historical approach of asking our technologists to focus on one goal – the glass better for drops or scratches – asked them to focus on improving both drops and scratches, and they came with Gorilla Glass Victus. "

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus performed better in laboratory tests where it dropped 2m when dropped on a hard surface where competitor aluminosilicate glasses typically fail with a 0.8m drop. Glass Victus also performed better than its predecessor, Corning Gorilla Glass 6, with up to a 2-fold improvement in scratch resistance. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is four times more scratch-resistant than its competitor aluminosilicate glasses compared to its competitors.

It should be noted that Samsung Electronics will be the first brand to have Gorilla Glass Victus in the near future.
