Sony thanked viewers for watching after the PlayStation 5 launch date and price was announced, and ended the show with a quick look at what is considered the God of War: Ragnarok. No gameplay footage or storyline details were offered, but players were warned to "prepare".
Final Fantasy XVI
The show began with a look at the next installment in the Final Fantasy franchise, Final Fantasy XVI. The clip was about a character named Joshua Shield, who has to protect the son of an archduke. The trailer contained both cinematics and gameplay footage, and teased a story that appears to be about power and power struggles.
Final Fantasy XVI will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PC. Square Enix has not disclosed a start date.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Activision Blizzard offered a glimpse of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, one of the most anticipated launches of the year. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available just in time for this holiday season. Starting Friday, PlayStation 4 owners will be able to play the multiplayer alpha build of the game.
Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Sony offered in-game material from Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and announced that the new game would be released in time for this holiday season. The trailer shows the title character in New York City fighting against enemies. Both the gameplay material and the cinematics made great looking imagery, and Insomniac Games, the developer of the title, also showed off the in-game combat experience, which included numerous fights in the air. The first look showed Morales rescuing people on a bus and others stranded on a bridge.
Resident Evil VIII
Sony and Capcom offered a glimpse of the upcoming Resident Evil VIII. The game will be released in 2021 and will tell a "local story" with the typical horror focus of the franchise. Not much has been shared about the game or its gameplay, but look to Capcom to share more in the months ahead.
Not to be outdone, Sony offered a look at the first-person title Deathloop, which will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 5 when it releases in the second quarter of next year. The game seems to have a wide variety of gravity elements that allow players to throw enemies from a distance and to throw objects at enemies.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
Another Capcom favorite, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, also hit the PlayStation 5 storefront. The sneak peek included gameplay material when the characters competed in close combat. It also showed the game's characteristic fast movement, colorful battles, and seemingly almost impossible odds in a variety of battles. Capcom didn't share much of its plans, but did say the title will be available digitally on the PlayStation 5 launch date.
A new Harry Potter title at Hogwarts School called Hogwarts Legacy allows players to experience the magical school in a new way. Hogwarts Legacy, available in 2021, will examine what students are doing and learning at the castle.
Oddworld appeared in the form of Oddworld Soulstorm on the PlayStation 5 showcase. The main character, Abe, tried to survive in a world that is "bigger, worse [and] braver". The in-game footage shows the comedic gameplay and platform of the game. Again, the target is on Abe's back. There is no release date yet.
