Volocopter provides tickets for first flights with its distinctive plane

If $ 250,000 for a seat on one of Virgin Galactic's upcoming space tourism flights sounds a bit expensive, how about a modest $ 350 to become one of the first passengers on the extraordinary Volocopter?

The two-seat autonomous aircraft is a decade in development and the work of a German company of the same name. If the regulators give the green light, Volocopter plans to deploy the vertical take-off and landing machine for air taxi services in urban areas.

As part of an effort to demonstrate that the project is headed in the right direction, Volocopter opened reservations this week to give members of the public the first chance to fly aboard its all-electric aircraft.

Each of the 1,000 “VoloFirst” tickets costs 300 euros and can be reserved online with a 10% down payment, the company announced.

The flight takes about 15 minutes. Each passenger receives a personalized certificate and a video of their trip.

But before you write your name down there are a few things you should know. First, ask yourself, are you the patient type? Due to Volocopter's “realistic schedule” for the launch of its VoloFirst flights, your journey will not take place until after the aircraft has taken off commercially, which is expected “in the next two to three years”. Second, are you cool if you don't know where the flight will be? No, did not say Volocopter. We reached out to the company for more information and will update this article as soon as we get a response.

The 18-rotor Volocopter is safe, simple, quiet and versatile and is powered by nine lithium-ion batteries. The maximum speed is 100 km / h. When traveling at a speed of 43 miles per hour, the plane has a range of 35 km, making it suitable for quick city trips.

The Volocopter has already completed a number of test flights, including in Helsinki and Singapore. The company competes with a number of other companies around the world, all of whom are trying to be the first to launch a commercial air taxi service. Fortunately, this rickety invention is not in the running.
